Welcome to Karim SaniSyah Firm

KarimSyah Law Firm was established in 1997 as one of very few Indonesian firms with both transactional and contentious practices, and has quickly become recognized as one of Indonesia’s premier law firms.

KarimSyah is Indonesia’s market leader in Dispute Resolution, Financing and Resources. Areas of specialisation on the transactional side include  Oil, Gas and Energy and Infrastructure matters, Insurance, all manner of Financing and Restructuring, Information Technology, Land Transactions, Bankruptcy, Joint Ventures and other cross-border transactions and business structures. On the contentious side the firm handles commercial litigation and both local and international arbitration and mediation, with recent new specialisations in medical malpractice defense and aviation disaster settlements.

KarimSyah’s lawyers are qualified in both civil and common law, with long experience representing foreign companies doing business in Indonesia, and vice versa, and are well attuned to the cultural nuances necessary to make cross-border relationships succeed.

Indonesia is a difficult jurisdiction in which effectively to set up new business structures, and an even more difficult one in which to enforce one’s contractual rights when relationships break down. It is therefore imperative that foreign clients obtain straightforward legal, business, and cultural guidance in a prompt and responsive manner. Working as a team, both internally and together with external financial and other support-service organisations, KarimSyah can lead the client through all aspects of its transaction of business in this rich and rewarding, if sometimes mystifying, eastern culture.

KarimSyah’s lawyers are actively involved in the recovery effort, in education of best practices and in fighting corruption. Working with various ministries and professional organisations KarimSyah assisted in formulating and implementing innovative solutions for many of the economic and social problems resulting from the economic crisis and chaos in the wake of the former administration, including acting the primary law firm assisting the Bank Restructuring Agency (“IBRA”) during its mandate for restructuring of debt and disposal of assets. KarimSyah also represents the government and several state-owned companies in both new projects and in resolving disputes with pre-reform partners.

KarimSyah is committed to encouragement of alternative dispute resolution and dedicated to devoting all of its resources, including not only its extensive expertise but also its strong local contacts, to the furtherance of its clients’ interests.
